D… is for… Disappointment #atoz

I’m a girl who adores butter.

Margarine – I spit at the idea.

So imagine my disappointment to discover that last weeks food shop yielded a blend of mixed vegetable fat that was wrapped to look like butter! I’d rather go hungry than eat/use it!

I felt robbed. Cheated and swindled. Talk about disappointed.

When was the last time a book disappointed you, as a reader?

Last month I came to: Mary Anne by Daphne Du Maurier, with a level of expectation for a good read that sadly was not met, despite this novel being well crafted. At reading group I discovered I was not alone in my disappointment.

So what does a new reader expect from a new author?

I was not disappointed by new author, Isabel Ashdown, who in my opinion, has delivered. Her first book ‘Glasshopper’ is a poignant and insightful read. And I would recommend it. I have not, as yet, read her second novel, ‘Hurry up and Wait’ but I have high hopes for another good read.

Disappointment can come in all shapes and guises. What disappointed you today, this week, this year?

    1. Jane - Hello - A girl after my own heart – lol – lovely to meet you here. And I will check out your blog the moment my Easter madness calms down, hopefully tomorrow *rofl*

  2. ohhh let me guess - was it Clover? I always stare at it with a level of mild confusion.

Authors who i have been disappointed by recently...luckily none, I have a firm reliance on sticking to favoured authors or stealing a book when a friend suggests one.

How's the challenge going for you?

    1. Yep you’ve guessed it was Clover… next time I will put on my reading glasses & read the small print! The diplomacy within the book group is that each member chooses a book; never know what to expect as we try to pick ones we’ve not read!

Loving the challenge but there aren’t enough hours in the day as a mad and giddy aunt I’m on ‘niece’ duty. This is not a hardship much more of a pleasure than I’ve time to explain, as time seems to evaporate & I crawl into bed exhausted! Will check out your blog the moment my Easter madness calms down, hopefully tomorrow *rofl*

    1. I do know what you mean, Judy: dull & overcast here & we have plans to go to Brighton to the laines, sunshine would have added an extra dimension, however upside is the parking should be less congested!

  4. I'm usually the only one that can disappoint me. Wasted days when I should have finished a chapter - that's what I get disappointed about. But I also like butter not marg although I shouldn't be having much of either, I'm trying to get back into shape - it's not fun.

    1. I have a motto: write with confidence… when you can… & don’t impose limits on yourself… I try to focus on the good stuff & ignore the other until I need it for a characters reaction & I can empathize about battling to get back in shape too...

  6. I was proud to be the very last person on the a to z list when it closed. I didn't plan it that way, I'm just a natural procrastinator.
I was rather disappointed when two days after the list closed, they added one more blog. There's no bragging rights in being second to last.

p.s. im so ridiculously fond of butter, i am occasionally caught slicing it and eating it plain. Now that's comfort food

I like your writing. Truly. I am now a follower.

  7. I like the idea that you loved being last on the list, in a strange way it has a resonance with me too. And Butter is extraordinary isn’t it, that it satisfies even though we know ultimately over consumption is very, very bad for us! Thank you for following – much appreciated – I’m behind with returning favours at the moment. Will repay my tardiness next week when things have calmed down…
